While Apple is entering the AI race with its own model, it does not boast the same cutting-edge technology found in the systems used by its competitors. There are notable gaps in capability; for example, unlike OpenAI’s model, which can produce creative outputs like singing, Apple’s version is more utilitarian. The primary differentiation hinges on the potential interactions users can have with their devices through Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, which aims to execute practical tasks—managing calendars, sending emails, and manipulating photos—more effectively than traditional AI chatbots.

This focus on functionality is crucial. Apple’s ambitious vision is for Siri to operate within third-party applications seamlessly, allowing users to employ voice commands across millions of apps. For this to materialize, developers must alter how their applications are built, specifically by creating numerous snippets of code known as App Intents. This requirement adds a layer of complexity and can act as a hurdle in gaining widespread developer support.
